Batch Scanning

Back to Support

NAPS2 has a batch scanning feature to automate some scanning tasks. Under the "Scan" dropdown you can click "Batch Scan".

Scan Configuration

Once you choose a profile, you can select whether you want a single scan or multiple scans.

"Single scan": A single operation of the scanner - for a feeder, that could be many pages.

"Multiple scans (prompt between scans)": Manually replace the paper in the scanner between each scan operation. When a scan is complete, a window will pop up and once you replace the paper you can click Scan (or Done).

"Multiple scans (fixed delay between scans)": You choose ahead of time how many scan operations to perform and how long you have between each scan to replace the paper. You won't have to touch NAPS2 on your computer until all the scans are complete.

Output Configuration

There are a few output options.

"Load images into NAPS2": Like a normal scan in NAPS2, images are loaded in and you can edit, view, and rearrange them before saving however you want.

"Save to a single file": All images from every scan in the batch are put together into one file and saved to your chosen location and file type.

"Save to multiple files": Images are split up into multiple files based on your selection below and saved to your chosen location and file type. You can use Placeholders to choose how multiple files should be named (for example, "$(nnn)" will be replaced with "001", "002", etc).

You have a few choices for how to split up multiple files.

"One file per scan": Only available if you selected "Multiple scans" above. Each scan corresponds to one file.

"One file per page": Each individual page scanned gets its own file.

"Separate files by Patch-T": Whenever a Patch-T code is scanned, a new file is started.

Patch-T

Patch codes are pages with barcodes on them that can be recognized by scanning software. NAPS2 supports patch codes on all scanners with both WIA and TWAIN.

If you have the "Save to multiple files" option checked, you can choose "Separate files by Patch-T". That way, you can feed a stack of paper into your feeder and it will be separated into multiple documents wherever you place a copy of the Patch-T code.

If NAPS2 has trouble recognizing patch codes, make sure you use a resolution of at least 300 DPI.
